Benefits and Costs
Racehorse ownership is no longer reserved for the rich and famous. It has never been easier to get involved in horse racing, whether on your own or with a group of friends. The thrill and excitement of being in the paddock before and after a race is unbelievable. Whether you win or lose, the atmosphere is electrifying and you’re right in the middle of it.
Shefford Bloodstock Services specialises in purchasing horses for individuals and 12 person partnerships. Owners enjoy a number of benefits: -
- Full involvement both on and off the course
- 2 Owner's badges per partner
- Stable visits can be arranged at any time for Owners
- Henry Ponsonby contacts Owners before and after each runner
- Frequent hospitality is arranged and included on racecourses for Owners
- All financial proceeds are divided equally
- Owners receive comprehensive monthly and annual newsletters
- Daily racing telephone bulletins - Henry's views on the day's racing is broadcast each morning from 9.30am
A sum of between £1,000 - 4,000 is required to purchase a share. All the training fees and other ancillary expenses connected with racing the horse are funded by each member paying £250 monthly into the partnership bank account from a given date. All costs are met by this bank account and any surplus funds returned to the members either at the termination of the syndicate or when the accounts are done on an annual basis.
Legislation passed in the 1993 budget enables all VAT connected with racing a horse to be recovered. However, it will not be necessary for each individual partner to get involved with this as we will register the partnership as a whole for VAT. The manager will claim this back on the member’s behalf on a quarterly basis. In effect this means that all VAT payable in connection with running the horse is recovered and also the VAT portion of the cost of each partner’s share.
